Come, Lord Jesus

Jason and I were driving into Portland (west end Lville) on our way to small groups this evening when we were passed by an emergency vehicle. It swerved through two lanes of traffic and pulled over to the side of the road... where I saw an elderly black homeless man that had collapsed on the sidewalk, his garbage bag of possessions laying next to him.

The image was so saddening and shocking that I felt tears well up in my eyes, my heart torn for the man and so many others like him. It also made me long for the new heaven and new earth, when suffering will cease, death will not have power over us, and sin will no longer corrupt our bodies, minds, and hearts. Move us to act and go into the nations and our neighborhoods with Your good news, Father! Brothers and sisters, let's not become so comfortable in this present season of eternity that we do not long and groan for the coming of our King...

Come, Lord Jesus.
